Independent retailers prepare for third Vodafone boycott
Independent retailers from across the country are preparing for a third boycott of mobile phone operator Vodafone over its proposed cut in commission payments.
Several thousand independent retailers are expected to stop selling Vodafone products for three days starting on July 25th.
The move comes after two previous boycotts failed to convince the phone company to reverse its decision to cut commission paid for mobile top ups.
An independent retailer from the north of England, Kevin Hunt, is leading the protests. He urged more small shops to join the campaign as he said they were stronger "collectively".
Mr Hunt added: "Our campaign is gathering strength and receiving excellent press attention. However we must continue with our actions if Vodafone is to reverse their decision.
"Vodafone have said in their response that they will not process another rate cut for two years. But this indicates that their long term strategy will probably be to continue reducing rates."
Retailers said that Vodafone's recent announcement that its revenues jumped nearly 20 per cent in the second quarter of the year strengthened their resolve to protest against the planned cut.
